BIOGRAPHY
John Hillis Sanders’ career as an artist spans over 5 decades. His original works reflect his movement within mediums spawned by necessity and concept. The work continues to grow and alter using space as inspiration. Influences are drawn from several artists of the 20th century, such as Marcel Duchamp, Joseph Beuys, and Donald Judd.

Sanders has taught both ceramics and sculpture at several major universities in Southern California. After graduate school, he began his career as a ceramic artist. Within a decade, Sanders' focus shifted to large scale, site specific, and installation work. The post-modern movement and the critical influence it has on contemporary art is exemplified in his extensive body of work.
